Journal 10

Remorse is a very common trait to feel in life. Whether it is guilt, regret, sorrow, or shame, one may feel these synonyms at various times. Remorse isn’t one of those characteristics that you are always happy to have, it’s unfortunate how much someone may remorse. I know that I regret many things that I have done in life. I always think back to high school soccer and regret not taking advantage of it as much as I should have. I should have cared a lot more and tried a lot harder to make my team better and I regret that, because now that I am playing for an elite super y league team, I know that I could have helped my team more. I also regret a lot of decisions I made during school in regards to work. I always waited for the last minute such as this essay right now, and sometimes pay for it with the grade I may have received when I could have easily gotten an A. Studying is another example. I could have studied for every test I have taken in my life instead of just studying freshman and sophomore year and slacking every other.
Most of the time revenge isn’t a positive characteristic either. Take Hamlet for example, numerous characters in Hamlet seek revenge on another hoping to kill the opposition. However, in the end because of there seek for revenge, particularly Hamlet, they wind up dead. On the other hand, revenge may be positive. For instance, when playing a sport, during a season a team may lose to an opponent that they dread and want to beat very badly. If they lose the first time they play them, they might want revenge on that team which will encourage them to play harder and beat them the next time they are playing.
Therefore, revenge has its pros and cons in life. Usually when revenge comes to the mind though you think of Hamlet’s situation or Laertes’s, where they just want to kill someone. Movies make people believe that revenge is bad in that sense because in many movies people are seeking revenge on others.
